The Rocky Mountains, which stretch from Alaska, down through Canada and into northern New Mexico, are truly one of the most beautiful wonders of the natural world. The entire mountain range covers over 3,000 miles total.
This majestic range was formed within the time period between 80 and 55 million years ago. This time period is known as the laramide orogency. This term describes the forces and accompanied changes that occurred to the area of the Rockies as the earth’s crust shifted from moving, tectonic plates.
